The idea of Canteiro first came to me during the pandemic. Furloughed from my job, I was looking for something to fill my days and bring a bit of joy back into my family's home.

The name 'Canteiro' comes from the phrase canteiro de flores, which means 'flower bed' in Portuguese. As you can see, many of my early designs were inspired by the flora in my own back garden.
I have enjoyed illustrating every last product on my website. I want to thank my family, my friends, and my dear partner, for pushing me to do this. Hi! My name is Luke and I'm the founder of Canteiro. While only a small business, creating Canteiro has been a labour of love for me. Having studied Fashion at university, with a particular emphasis on print design, creating the fun and bold homeware you see on this website is as much a passion as it is a business.
While I drew prints in my day-to-day job, they were often subtle and minimalist – with a focus on commerciality and broad appeal.
Incorporating bold colours and experimenting with new brushes and techniques brought some of the joy back into designing for me. And in turn, I hope the fun and bold designs on this site will bring some joy into other people's homes.
